The United Kingdom has officially moved Kaduna State from the “Red” to the “Amber” category in its travel advisory, a change that now allows British citizens to travel freely to the state.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Cynthia Rowe, Development Director of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), during the signing of a new Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework (KaMAF) with the state government in Kaduna.
Recognition of Improved Security
Rowe explained that Kaduna had remained in the “Red” category since 2022 due to persistent security challenges. However, following significant improvements in safety and stability, the UK has now reclassified the state.
“This decision is recognition of Governor Uba Sani’s efforts in addressing insecurity. It also sends a strong signal to prospective investors that Kaduna is open for business,” she said.
Strengthening Partnerships Through KaMAF
The KaMAF agreement, jointly signed by Governor Uba Sani and Rowe, is designed to consolidate gains made in governance, healthcare, education, and agriculture.
Governor Sani noted that the collaboration has already delivered measurable progress, including:
- Reduced maternal and child mortality rates.
- Improved access to quality healthcare.
- Upgraded school infrastructure and enhanced teacher training.
He added that the state government is prioritising agriculture, with over 10 percent of Kaduna’s 2025 budget allocated to boosting both crop and livestock productivity.
Deepening Reforms and Citizen Engagement
The governor also highlighted ongoing reforms such as:
- The Local Government Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (LFTAS) initiative.
- Issue-Based Projects aimed at targeted development.
- Community Development Charters to promote citizen participation in governance.
“These initiatives will help deepen citizen engagement and strengthen public institutions,” Sani said.
A Positive Signal for Investors
Observers note that the easing of the UK’s travel advisory could serve as a major confidence boost for international investors, many of whom had expressed caution about operating in Kaduna due to security concerns.
With this development, Kaduna now joins other Nigerian states in the “Amber” category, reflecting progress in its journey toward stability and sustainable growth.
