INEC Recognises David Mark-Led Leadership of ADC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised the David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the authentic leadership of the party.

According to an update published on INEC’s official website, the new leadership structure of the ADC is as follows:

  • National Chairman: Senator David Mark
  • National Secretary: Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola
  • National Treasurer: Dr. Mani Ibrahim Ahmad
  • National Financial Secretary: Akibu Dalhatu
  • National Legal Adviser: Prof. Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor

This announcement brings to an end months of internal wrangling within the ADC, which began after a coalition of political leaders resolved to adopt the party as its platform for the 2027 general elections.

A faction within the ADC had opposed the move, insisting that Mark, Aregbesola, and other newly announced executives were not bona fide members of the party and therefore lacked the authority to lead. The dispute created parallel leadership claims that threatened the party’s stability.

With INEC’s recognition, however, the commission has settled the matter by officially listing David Mark and his team as the legitimate national executives of the ADC.

Political observers believe this development will strengthen the coalition’s efforts ahead of 2027 while also sending a strong signal to dissenting factions that the matter of leadership has been conclusively decided.

As preparations for the next general elections intensify, all eyes will be on the ADC to see how the new leadership positions the party in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
