Libya to Host Nigeria in 2025 AFCON Qualifiers at Martyrs of Benina Stadium

Libya has chosen the Martyrs of Benina Stadium, located 19 kilometers outside Benghazi, to host their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Nigeria.

The stadium, which has a capacity of 10,000 and features artificial turf, was previously known as Hugo Chávez Stadium.

The upcoming match marks the fourth matchday of Group D in the AFCON qualifiers, with Nigeria currently leading the group.

The two teams are scheduled to face off in a Matchday 3 encounter at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, October 11, before the clash in Benina on Tuesday, October 15. The kickoff time for the Uyo match is set for 5 PM, while the Benina match will commence at 8 PM Nigerian time.

As it stands, Libya occupies the bottom position in Group D, having played two matches with disappointing results: a 1-1 draw against Rwanda at the Tripoli International Stadium and a 1-2 defeat to the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan.

Conversely, Nigeria tops the group with four points, following a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo on Matchday 1 and a goalless draw against Rwanda’s Amavubi in Kigali on Matchday 2.

This upcoming match is crucial for both teams as they continue their quest for qualification to the 2025 AFCON tournament.
