The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano State Command has issued a clarification regarding recent media reports suggesting that 20 chairmanship candidates in the state tested positive for drugs.
According to a press statement from the Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Maigatari, the NDLEA did not make any such specific claim about chairmanship candidates.
The NDLEA confirmed that 20 candidates tested positive for drugs, but emphasized that these results were not linked to any particular political position or party.
The statement clarified that the drug tests were conducted on candidates individually, without specifying whether they were running for chairmanship or councilorship positions. As such, the NDLEA is not able to determine which candidates are contesting for which positions based on the test results alone.
The agency urged the public to await the official release of the comprehensive results at the end of the screening exercise. The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and accuracy throughout the electoral process, and assured that the integrity of the drug testing procedure would be upheld.
The clarification aims to address misunderstandings and prevent the dissemination of incorrect information about the ongoing drug screening for electoral candidates in Kano State.
