Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has assured corps members that their monthly allowance will be increased once civil servants begin receiving the newly approved minimum wage.
This assurance was conveyed in a statement issued by the NYSC’s acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu.
Brigadier General Ahmed delivered the message during his visits to the Kebbi State Orientation Camp in Dakingari and the Sokoto State Orientation Camp in Wamakko.
He urged corps members to be patient and continue their contributions to the nation’s socio-economic development, noting that their efforts are highly valued.
The DG also encouraged corps members to make the most of their service year by engaging in activities that will foster personal growth and future success.
He highlighted the importance of participating in the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which offers vocational training designed to promote self-reliance among participants.
“Try to acquire skills that will enable you to create jobs and employ others instead of merely searching for jobs. Many ex-corps members across the country are thriving in their respective vocations today,” Brigadier General Ahmed advised.
The promise of an allowance increase is expected to provide a morale boost for the corps members, who play a critical role in various sectors across the country, including education, healthcare, and rural development.
The NYSC leadership remains committed to supporting corps members as they navigate their service year, with an emphasis on skill development and entrepreneurial initiatives to prepare them for post-service life.
The announcement follows the Federal Government’s recent approval of a new minimum wage, which is set to positively impact the earnings of civil servants and, subsequently, the allowances of NYSC members.
