The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a substantial allocation of over N1.455 trillion for a series of road construction projects across thirteen states, as announced by Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi. The approval came during a Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday.
These projects, which include several that were deferred due to funding shortages in July, are set to improve critical infrastructure nationwide.
The approved projects cover a broad range of road rehabilitation and construction efforts:
- Ogun State: The rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road, with an allocated budget of N57 billion.
- Adamawa and Borno States: The Mubi to Maiduguri Road project has been divided into two sections:
- Section Three: Valued at N89 billion.
- Section Two: Valued at N67 billion.
- Edo and Ondo States: The Benin-Akure-Ilesha Road project is allocated N525 billion, while the Benin-Akure segment by Ilesha has been budgeted at N286 billion.
- Imo State: The Angingali-Udobi-Udona-Umo-Uwana-Ubalaka Road project, worth N26.46 billion, and the Aba-Owerri Road rehabilitation, with a budget of N21 billion.
- Cross River State: Several projects totaling N79 billion.
- Enugu and Rivers States: The Enugu-Port Harcourt Road project is allocated N83 billion.
- Abia State: The Umuahia to Aba Road project, valued at N90 billion.
- Lagos State: The Ofin-Oreta Road in Ikorodu has been allocated N27.9 billion.
- Ondo State: The Ore-Ondo-Akure Road project is funded with N134 billion.
- Additional Projects:
- The Igomu Bridge project is allocated N19.87 billion.
These extensive roadworks are intended to enhance transportation infrastructure, boost economic activities, and address longstanding road maintenance issues across the country.
The funding approval reflects the government’s commitment to improving national infrastructure and addressing previous delays in project implementation due to financial constraints.
