Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reassured fans that influential midfielder Kevin de Bruyne will remain at the club, despite speculation linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.
De Bruyne, who has a year left on his contract, had previously mentioned considering offers from the Saudi Pro-League due to the significant financial incentives. However, Guardiola dismissed these concerns, stating confidently that De Bruyne is not leaving the club.
Guardiola’s comments came ahead of Manchester City’s opening pre-season game against Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. De Bruyne was instrumental in helping City secure the Premier League title last season, marking their fourth consecutive championship and his sixth title with the club.
In addition to De Bruyne, other players have been linked with moves. Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, a member of the England squad for Euro 2024, and Brazil goalkeeper Ederson have both attracted interest, including from Saudi Arabian clubs.
Despite these rumors, Guardiola expressed confidence that the core of the squad will remain intact. He suggested there is a high probability—between 85% and 95%—that the team will start the new season with the same group of players.
Guardiola also indicated that while he is not ruling out new signings entirely, the focus is currently on maintaining the existing squad. Manchester City will kick off their Premier League title defense against Chelsea on August 18.
