Oluwo of Iwo Calls for Removal of Idol-Worshipping Monarchs, Advocates for Purity in Yoruba Leadership

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has issued a strong declaration against idol worship within the monarchy, stating that any king who engages in such practices should be removed from their throne.

This statement was made during a reception organized for him by the Iwo community on Monday, July 22.

Oba Akanbi expressed his belief that monarchs who worship idols are essentially acting as herbalists rather than true leaders.

He emphasized that his new initiative aims to establish an association of monarchs who do not engage in idol worship and trust solely in the Almighty God. This association will include monarchs from South Western states who share this vision.

In his address, the Oluwo stressed the need to correct past mistakes and establish a foundation of truth and integrity within the Yoruba monarchy.

He criticized the current state of the monarchy, which he described as having been tainted by practices of deity worship, which he argues should be considered a religion rather than a cultural practice.

Oluwo Akanbi’s statement reflects a broader cultural and religious reform initiative aimed at purging what he perceives as corrupt practices within the traditional leadership.

He criticized the mixing of right and wrong practices and asserted that the monarchy should be cleansed to ensure the prosperity and integrity of Yoruba land.

The Oluwo’s comments suggest a strong desire to restore the traditional monarchy’s purity and align it with what he considers to be the true cultural and religious values of the Yoruba people.

This cultural reform initiative seeks to rid the monarchy of practices he views as inconsistent with genuine Yoruba tradition and faith.
