Landlord Dies After Dispute Over Unpaid Rent in Ogun State

A landlord in Ogun State, Benjamin Apeh, has died following an argument with his tenant over unpaid rent at Arigbagbu village, Sotubo, in the Sagamu Local Government Area.

The incident was detailed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, on Tuesday. According to the statement, the matter was reported to the police by the daughter of the deceased, Precious Apeh, at around 5:00 pm on Monday.

SP Odutola disclosed that the altercation began at approximately 7:20 pm on Saturday when Apeh confronted his tenant regarding unpaid rent. The situation escalated further on Sunday morning around 6:30 am when Precious heard her father and the tenant arguing outside their house. During the argument, the tenant allegedly threatened to kill Apeh.

“During the argument, Apeh collapsed and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, where he was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor,” Odutola stated.

The tenant fled the scene following the incident. Efforts are currently underway by the police to apprehend the suspect. Detectives, led by SP Temitope Fapohunda, have visited the scene and taken photographs. Further updates on the case will be provided as the investigation progresses.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue in Sagamu. The police have commenced an investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the death.

This tragic incident highlights the potential dangers of landlord-tenant disputes and the need for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
