Fleeing Suspect Arrested for Alleged Rape and Murder of Pregnant Pastor’s Wife in Rivers State

In Rivers State, a fleeing suspect named Emeka has been apprehended by police for the alleged rape and strangling of Mrs. Chigbewejim Steward, the pregnant wife of an assistant pastor in Abarikpo community, Ahoada East Local Government Area. The suspect had been on the run for 15 months following the heinous crime committed on February 12, 2023.

According to Mr. Lawyer Steward, the husband and assistant pastor, his wife had a minor altercation with Emeka, during which she referred to him as a “wicked man.” Later that night, Emeka and his accomplices broke into their home around 1am, abducted Mrs. Steward, and took her to a forest hideout where she was gang-raped and strangled to death.

Mr. Steward expressed relief at Emeka’s arrest but urged the government to ensure justice is served. Other victims from Abarikpo community have also come forward, accusing Emeka of ordering the killings of their relatives during the reign of a notorious cultist known as David Gift, or “2Baba.”

Mrs. Steward’s body was found near a fishing pond with multiple bruises and signs of assault. Her fearless condemnation of criminal and cult activities in the community was noted by her husband.

The Rivers State Police Command has yet to comment on the matter. SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer, promised to provide further information but has not done so as of the time of this report.
