Abuja, Nigeria – Tuesday turned out to be a day of unexpected festivities for residents of Abuja, the nation’s capital, as a truck loaded with beer overturned a few meters from the popular Berger roundabout, leading to an impromptu street party.
The incident occurred around 4 pm along the Mabushi and Berger expressway when the driver lost control, causing the truck to veer off the road and topple over. Within moments, passersby and motorists converged on the scene, helping themselves to the free beer from the overturned truck.
Among the crowd were some of Abuja’s elite, the so-called ‘Big Boys’ with their exotic cars and SUVs, who quickly pulled over to join in the unexpected celebration. Dispatch riders, as well as Bolt and Uber drivers, also temporarily suspended their trips to partake in the beer feast.
The atmosphere soon resembled a carnival, with many residents seen leaving with crates of beer while others brought buckets to fill. The scene was vibrant and lively, as people enjoyed the unexpected bounty.
It is learned that the management of the beer company instructed the truck driver to allow people to drink the beer to prevent wastage. This decision was welcomed by the crowd, who made the most of the situation.
Meanwhile, road safety officers were present at the scene, ensuring order and preparing to tow the overturned truck away. Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident.
The incident, while disruptive, provided a unique and joyful moment for many Abuja residents, turning an ordinary Tuesday into a memorable occasion.
