The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally pressed charges against the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, for his alleged authorization of the production of N684.5 million at a cost of N18.96 billion.
Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the four charges during his arraignment before Justice Maryann Anenih at the FCT High Court in Abuja.
In the four charges brought against him, the EFCC accuses Emefiele of deliberately ignoring legal instructions with the intent to harm the public while implementing the naira swap policy under the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Additionally, the anti-corruption agency alleges that Emefiele improperly authorized the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.
During Wednesday’s court appearance, the former CBN governor faced three charges that are yet to be resolved.
