Lagos Inspectors Dismissed Over Alleged Romantic Affair

A tumult is unfolding at the Lagos State Police Command following the dismissal of two police Inspectors suspected of being romantically involved.

However, the officers have been granted seven working days to contest their dismissal.

The individuals affected are Inspectors Adedoyin Damilola, with AP/NO 289317, and Makanjuola Modupe, with AP/NO 234465, who were stationed at the Bariga Division before their dismissal.

Inspector Modupe Makanjuola was accused by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Joshua Gbadegeshin, of having a romantic relationship with her colleague, Inspector Damilola, despite his interest in her. This accusation was denied by Inspector Modupe.

Nonetheless, it was reported that the distressed DPO, who allegedly claimed to have never been rejected by any woman he approached, vowed to ensure the dismissal of both Inspectors from the police force.

Fearing the DPO might carry out his threat, they jointly submitted a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, dated August 21, 2023, accusing the DPO of making threats to their lives, engaging in behavior likely to cause a breach of peace, and displaying unprofessional conduct unbecoming of a senior police officer.

In their petition, the female Inspector presented WhatsApp messages of a romantic nature from the DPO, which she rejected, as well as instances of providing official weapons and police attire to civilian relatives for operations against police regulations.

Meanwhile, the DPO has filed a strong petition with the Commissioner of Police, citing dereliction of duty, gross insubordination, and disobedience to lawful orders against the two inspectors, leading to their disciplinary hearing.

“But the Provost Marshall then called us and advised us to write a letter of withdrawal to the petition against the DPO on the ground that he is our senior and that the matter will be amicably settled, which we did on January 5, 2024, not knowing that it was a ploy to nail us.
