In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the life of a Nigerian soldier, Tope from Ikere, was abruptly cut short despite being granted official leave to reunite with his family in Benin City, Edo State.
Tope, serving his nation diligently, was compelled to send his younger sibling on an urgent mission to purchase fuel for their generator due to a power outage. Little did they know that this simple task would lead to a series of unfortunate events.
As Tope’s sibling ventured out to acquire gasoline around 9:30 p.m., he was unexpectedly detained by police officers under suspicion, despite explaining his purpose and providing proof of his brother’s military service.
Desperate to resolve the misunderstanding, Tope’s sibling attempted to clarify the situation by contacting his brother. Tragically, while en route to meet the officers, he was involved in a severe accident, sustaining injuries that would prove fatal.
Despite pleas for assistance and a dire need for urgent medical attention, the officers adamantly refused to allow him to be transported to a hospital using their vehicle. Eventually, another passing vehicle agreed to help, but it was too late. Tope succumbed to his injuries before reaching medical care.
