The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has detained Jennifer Iliya, a 28-year-old woman, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, for the production and distribution of cakes containing illegal drugs, primarily cannabis sativa.
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, made this announcement in a statement released on Sunday.
Babafemi said during her arrest on Wednesday, “a substantial number of drugged cakes weighing 1.5kg were recovered from her possession.”
Additionally, Femi Babafemi stated that in Yenagoa on Sunday, March 10, a 20-year-old hair stylist named Josephine Odunu and a 30-year-old dispatch rider named Edesemi Ikporo were apprehended for similar offenses.
Furthermore, another suspect, who purportedly concealed drugs in women’s clothing, was arrested at the Lagos airport.
The statement partly read, “NDLEA officers at the Gate C departure hall of the Lagos airport on Friday, April 26, arrested a passenger, Yahaya Danjuma Oturah, while attempting to export 4,000 pills of tramadol 225mg to Malpensa, Italy, on an Ethiopian Airline flight.
“The psychoactive substance was found concealed in women wears and granulated melon packed in the suspect’s backpack and another bag containing food items.”
The statement went on to say that Oturah, a regular flier, admitted to being employed as a courier and paid €700 when the package arrived in Italy.
Providing another update on recent arrests, the statement indicated that Joseph Dadik, aged 47, and Bensha Yari, aged 32, were apprehended in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, with 24,180 ampoules of pentazocine injection weighing 135.5 kilograms.
Additionally, Adamu Umar, aged 18, was captured with 20.700 kilograms of cannabis during a raid on his residence in the Shuware area of Mubi, Adamawa State, on Friday, April 26th.
Furthermore, NDLEA operatives seized a total of 310.7 kilograms of cannabis during raids in parts of Mushin, Lagos State, on Thursday, April 25th. Stanley Chukwudi, aged 43, was arrested with 5,900 ampoules of pentazocine injection in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State.
Lastly, a couple, Fredrick Odion, aged 53, and Gladys Odion, aged 52, were caught with 50 kilograms of cannabis in Esan West LGA of Edo State.
Earlier in April, NDLEA agents, working with the Department of State Security, apprehended a 35-year-old woman, Chidinma Chinenye-Agbazue, after she was caught attempting to export 20 parcels of cannabis sativa weighing 10.70 kilogrammes concealed in African salad, commonly known as Abacha, and dried vegetables to Doha, Qatar, via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.
