Badminton: Kwara’s Eniola Bolaji Rises to World Number 7

Eniola Bolaji Mariam from Kwara State has made history as the first Nigerian and African to secure victory at the Spanish Para Badminton International Championship 2024, earning a gold medal in the process.

Her achievement is further highlighted by her ranking as the World number 7 in the Women’s SL3 category, as recognized by the World Para Badminton Governing Body.

Discovered four years ago in Kwara State by the late Coach Bello Oyebanji, Mariam has since received unwavering support from the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led Kwara State Government, enabling her to excel on the global stage.

In a remarkable performance, Mariam defeated World number 6, Oksana Kozyna from Ukraine, with a 2-0 victory to claim the gold medal in the women’s SL3 category at the 2024 Spanish Championship.

Her remarkable accomplishment serves as a source of pride for Kwara and Nigeria, as she joins the league of youths making significant contributions on the international stage.
