Breaking: Building Collapse in Kano Kills Three


On Friday, tragedy struck as an ongoing construction site collapsed in Kuntau, situated in the Gwale local government area of Kano State, resulting in the loss of three lives.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) verified the incident.

It said: “Three people died while two sustained injuries” when the three storey building collapsed.

As of the latest report, the exact count of victims remained uncertain, but eyewitnesses indicated that approximately 11 individuals could be trapped beneath the debris.

According to gathered information, two of the victims have been successfully rescued and promptly taken to the hospital by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials, who are still engaged in rescue efforts at the collapse site. Dr. Nuradeen Abdullahi, the NEMA Kano Territorial Coordinator, disclosed that NEMA received an urgent distress call around 9:20 am from a concerned citizen reporting the collapse of a three-story building under construction in Kuntau Quarters.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene,” he said, explaining that five people were rescued and taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.

“Out of those taken to the hospital, three were confirmed dead, while two victims sustained injury and are receiving treatment,” he said.

He noted the search and rescue operations was still ongoing to rescue those trapped.

“NEMA rescue team, Kano State Fire Service, Police, Red Cross, NSCDC and SEMA among others are still at the site of the incident to ensure removal of other trapped victims,” Abdullahi said.
