TCN Seeks More Funds to Complete Ongoing Power Projects

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has requested the National Assembly (NASS) to provide more funding to allow it to finish existing electricity projects.

Mr. Sule Abdulaziz, the business’s Managing Director, made the plea on Monday during an oversight visit to the company in Abuja by the Senate Committee on Power, chaired by Sen. Eyinnaya Abaribe.

Abdulaziz said that the firm has over 100 current projects, and that once finished, the national grid will be upgraded.

According to him, a shortage of funds has slowed the completion of several projects that have been in the works since 2001.

”TCN is focusing on grid expansion because of the increasing demand for electricity; it does this through rehabilitation and reinforcement projects.

”Currently, TCN has more than 100 ongoing projects nationwide.

”Most of the projects cannot be completed due to fund constraints and we appeal to the committee to help TCN source funds to complete them,” he said.

Other problems, according to the managing director, include right of way concerns and transmission and installation vandalism.

Responding, Abaribe said that despite the large quantities of money invested into the electricity industry, there were still several issues.

He did, however, tell TCN that the committee will report to the Senate as asked by TCN management and look into the prospect of revisiting the company’s yearly budget to enhance service delivery. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
