Alleged Theft: Lagos Woman Granted ₦200k Bail for Stealing ₦2.1m From Dead Boyfriend’s Account

Ihuoma Onunyere, 42, was charged in Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing ₦2.1 million from her late boyfriend’s account.

The defendant, a businesswoman who lives at 16, Joseph Harrison St., Iwaya neighborhood, Yaba, Lagos, is accused with stealing. She pled not guilty to the accusation. Innocent Odugbo, the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that Onunyere committed the crime between October 27 and November 20, 2023, in Yaba, Lagos.

According to the prosecution, the defendant withdrew ₦2.1 million from John Nwanu’s mobile phone account after his death. The prosecution said that Ruth, the late man’s daughter, noticed the withdrawal and reported it to the police station.

According to the prosecution, the offense violates Section 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. The Magistrate, M. F Onamusi, granted the defendant bail of ₦200,000 with two sureties in the same amount.

Onamusi postponed the matter until May 8 for mention.
