The Imo State Police Command has reported the assassination of two police officers assigned to Mopol 18 by suspected gunmen along Gariki Road in Okigwe area of Imo State.
Confirming the unfortunate incident in a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye said the officers were ambushed in the early hours of Saturday while on patrol duty along old Gariki Road, Okigwe by hoodlums who threw dynamite on the officer’s patrol vehicle and engaged them in a protracted gunfight.
He claimed that in the process, two cops paid the ultimate price while four others escaped the onslaught.
According to the police spokesperson, on getting information of the horrible occurrence, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, with Commander Mopol 18 and 64, promptly led operatives of the Command’s Special Tactical Unit to the crime site for on-the-spot assessment.
He directed the agents to go all out in collaboration with other security agencies and track down the hoodlums guilty for the assault.
The CP has also directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge of Okigwe, the DPO, and other tactical units stationed in Okigwe to engage on visibility patrol, intelligence-led raids of criminal hideouts, and establish watertight security to forestall any recurrence incident.
While empathizing with the families, friends, and loved ones of the murdered policemen, the Commissioner of Police emphasized in strong words that the Command under his watch would not condone any sort of assault on security professionals in the State.
He promised the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the culprits of this atrocious crime are all caught and made to face the full wrath of the law. (Text, except headline: Channels TV)
